Project Overview

Robo-Tapper is a cable-driven robot for high-rise facade inspection. It automates hammer testing and combines autonomous positioning with AI-assisted impact-signal analysis, creating a more consistent workflow for identifying facade defects.

Selected Contributions

  • Led the mechanical and systems development of the autonomous facade inspection platform.
  • Moved the system through field testing and into more than 12 commercial facade inspections within one year.
  • Reduced structural weight while improving stability, then designed and manufactured the electrical and control boxes.
  • Developed C++ and Python ROS nodes and APIs for the operator interface, navigation, and signal-processing workflow.
  • Integrated laser sensors, IMU, LiDAR, and computer vision for positioning and defect analysis.
  • Supported industrial safety compliance, including Form 5 certification work with a Registered Professional Engineer.
